I learned to type during the first semester of ninth grade, while I was in Nigeria. We used ancient type writers, but it certainly has been very worthwhile in the long run. Little did I know that slaving over my wpm would serve me so well in the end!

You make me feel so old! I know I'm only twn years older than you, but I took typing on typewriters. No computers in the school, at least for the students.

It was summer school and I got think I got a D. I too looked at my keys. My sadistic teacher taped a piece of paper with a smiley face drawn on it two weeks before the end. I had to type with my fingers under the paper. I failed the final.

My Dad bought me an IBM PC Junior with extra floppy drive and extra memory to take to college. I had the only PC in the dorm and all my friends used it. It was pre-windows with a daisy wheel printer. It had a terrible keyboard, known as the chicklet keyboard.

Interesting... I took typing in high school because I was interested in computers already and could type fairly decently (around 35-40 wpm) without touch-typing. I wanted to improve my speed and of course not have to watch my fingers as I typed. I hit 80 wpm at my peak, and knew I was never looking back. Got a couple of administrative jobs easily because of that skill, too! Never thought back then that I'd have a vocation involving computers (thought I'd be a neurosurgeon... HAHAHA!!!)
