Old folks seem to thrive on nitpicking about things like that. And I'm sure there are plenty of passive-aggressive old folks living in your building. God forbid you brushed up against the thermostat and raised it accidentally a 1/4 of a degree. They'd all storm out into the hallway at once asking for your head on a pike!

Ellen, I think that probably the frying pan owner was just planning on leaving in the trash room, and saw my box as a convenient resting place.

Scott, it was a box in which I had been shipped something, so it had the mailing label still on it.

Owen, finding a random chicken bone in the hallway is so unusual that I don't think they feel it necessary to create rules outlawing it.

Beware strange old ladies with ESP!

I think it would annoy me more to find a chicken bone - obvious refuse - in the hallway after having an inadequately folded box returned to me. Is there no rule about leaving chicken remains strewn about? Maybe this is some kind of loophole!

My question is, how did they know it was your box?

Do the little old ladies possess supernatural powers?

Weirder is the person bringing the frying pan to the trash room looking for such a container as opposed to CVS-bagging it in advance.
