[...] Gosh, I have to wrap up, I think that the constant plucking of the harpsicord means something. I just want to say that I never could have imagined all of my success in writing novels and screenplays. Who knew that all of my dreams would come true after a few lame ass blog posts – ahh remember blogging?? – about making my own granola. I’d just like to say one last thank you to my manager Karl, who always made me believe in the tallest of tales and that if I continued to contort my face into that of loathing, that it would stay that way. And finally to the production team, headed by Marisa, who knows the power of the written word and is probably spent a lot of time hoping that one day my crap ass novels would be able to be sold to the highest bidder.
Based on my own reaction to finding books I love at thrift stores and used bookstores, I am sure that someone out there will love our books someday after we are gone. Although I do hope that maybe I'll have a child or a niece/nephew who will be excited to keep many of them for themselves.

Oh, and I love my Madeline L'Engle books, even though it's been years since I read any of them.

I've wondered about my collection as well. No one in my family is much of a reader. I've pictured my literary friends sitting around going through my collection and taking what appeals to them. I've thought about bequeathing books, but my library grows so fast I don't think that is practical. Many of my books have my name embossed on the title page. There are also books with name plates.

Some of my books are inherited: a few of my maternal grandfather's school books, a small copy of As You Like It with my paternal grandmother's maiden name inside the front cover, and several Madeline L'Engle and Mary Stewart books from the woman who introduced me to them. I love those books for their history more than their content. Will anyone love them when I'm gone? Will anyone love my books for the same reason? I hope so.

Thanks Em! It was such a cool experience to stand there and realize that I was looking at a whole portion of a life. I am glad I grabbed a couple, but I'm starting to wish I had bought the one with the name written in it. Chances are they are still there and will be for the next few days, so I could get over it if I really feel the need to have it.

I LOVED this post. Very well written. But mostly I am left wondering about the owner as well. Good move picking up a few. YOu would have regretted not doing so (if you're anything like me.)
