Good stuff- reliving my own memories, except I rode the El, and walked through the Suburban Station concourse. I was unclear about the "underground cavern" you refered to, since Reading Terminal was above ground level?

I used to ride my bike almost daily from home in lower NE, to the new Elkins Park library. A few times I went up the hill from the library to the train station- I always imagined it to be "higher class" to be able to take the commuter trains, rather than the very old Broad Street subway cars (before they were replaced in 80s by the orange Kawasakis).

The Horn and Hardart was what truly grabbed me- I remember it, I think it was on the ground level of the Reading Terminal, on Market, and you could see the wall of vending foods..

a good start as usual. And you were not only tired from the workshop, but also because you only drank one beer. One beer would make me sleepy too.
