It isn't what it used to be (prompting a new, but lower-class, Hoover from us kids this past Christmas), but it's still a tank of a vacuum cleaner, and my father still swears by it. The way you write sort of reminds me of that and by that I mean the attention to small details normally overlooked. And, the repairing of the vacuum cleaner also seems to fit with that.
