My final day in San Francisco, I helped judge the preserves category in Good Food Awards. I met some fabulous canners, including Karen Solomon (author of the beautiful Jam It, Pickle It, Cure It) who bought me a cup of coffee and made me feel loved. It was a neat day.

Lunch at the Ferry Building Farmers Market. These little open-faced sandwiches tasted so good. I found an empty space along the side of a building and ate while watching what seemed like all of San Francisco walk by.

145 | 365Everyone seemed to have a terrific time at the sauerkraut class I taught at the Swarthmore Co-op. And what a terrific grocery store that is! I wish we had something like it in Center City.

The corner of my kitchen, after the post-dinner clean-up was complete. The final summer tomatoes are mingling with some decidedly autumnal pears.

We spent a couple hours with Thad, Angie and their girls this afternoon. They’re still in the process of moving into their new house, but it’s certainly beginning to come together. To make matters all the more complex, the girls are THIS CLOSE to crawling. Soon enough, they’ll be mobile.
